Penile (Penis) Thickening Surgery

Some men just want their penis thicker and therefore turn to the so called penile thickening surgery. The surgical method of increasing the penis girth is more successful than the lengthening surgery but it also hides risks and can lead to some unwanted results.

How is the Penile Thickening Surgery Implemented?

Generally, two different methods are used to increase the penis girth surgically.

Until recently, the more common one was increasing the penile girth through the use of fat transfer. Fat cells were liposuctioned from other parts of the body and then injected between the erectile tissue and the skin along the penile shaft.

A more recent surgical penile thickening technique includes placing grafts of dermis within the penile shaft. This is implemented by removing strips of tissue (layers of skin and the underlying fat) from the buttock area and then inserting these tissue strips into each side of the penile shaft.

Penis Thickening Surgery Results

The transfer of fat fails to provide permanent satisfactory results. Often the newly achieved girth disappears within a year since the injected fat is reabsorbed back into the body. In addition this often happens unevenly leaving the penis with unpleasant irregular lumps all over it.

The results from the dermal graft augmentation are considered to be more stable and long term than those from the fat transfer mainly because the tissue grafts are more securely placed compared to the fat injecting.

Penis Thickening Surgery Risks

Both types of penis thickening surgery involve risks of complications. The fat transfer is effective in short term but ends with loss of the newly achieved girth and appearance of nodule formations due to uneven fat re-absorption.  Even though the dermal graft augmentation procedure is considered to be more effective in the long term, it includes the risk of development of penile curvature and asymmetry if parts of the tissue grafts do not survive.
