Penile Suspensory Ligament Division for Penis Augmentation

The division of the penile suspensory ligament, sometimes accompanied by additional procedures of penile thickening, is a relatively simple to perform and commonly used penis lengthening technique. This penis augmentation surgery may indeed increase penile length but rarely to a degree that will satisfy the patient.

During this procedure the penile suspensory ligament is being approached via a suprapubic incision and divided close to the pubic bone so that all midline attachments are freed. Since subsequent reattachment and shortening is possible, a spacer (a silicone buffer) is sometimes placed between the penis and the pubis to prevent that from happening.

This type of penis augmentation surgery often results in some noticeable flaccid size gains but only an insignificant increase in the erect penis length. Some men continue practicing postoperative stretching exercises and manage to gain as much as 3 cm; however patients should be also warned that some penile shortening is also possible.

The complication rate of penile augmentation surgery through penile suspensory ligament division is relatively low as compared to other types of penis enlargement surgeries. And yet, despite the increase in flaccid state and the low complication rate, most of the men who have chosen this augmentation procedure remain dissatisfied with the outcome. Most of the time, this is due to the unrealistic preliminary expectations. Men should be aware that the division of the penile suspensory ligament can provide them with only about a 1-2 cm length gain and that the only way to better these results a bit is to perform stretching exercises.
